Updated Blog

Welcome!  Congratulations on your desire for guidance on how to attain a happier and healthier lifestyle! Let me give you a little background information...

I am a Certified Holistic Health Coach after completing the Professional Training Program of IIN, NYC’s Institute of Integrative Nutrition, and with S.U.N.Y, The State University of New York’s School of Liberal Studies and Continuing Education at Purchase College.  My specialty is the prevention and control of obesity and diabetes.  As a result of poor quality and style of eating, many people are overweight and have, or will soon have, diabetes.  It is my intention to change this situation and to improve upon cholesterol and blood sugar levels.   I have a passion to share my success story with those who want a positive change.

Specifically, I have been able to control my own diagnosis.  In February 2011 I had my blood tested and was diagnosed with diabetes.  I was given a diabetic drug to control my blood sugar levels, but I did not want to stay on that drug forever.  Therefore, I was determined to control my condition through nutrition and exercise instead.  And I did so.  This is how I succeeded…

I immediately obtained a nutritionist and a personal trainer, and within four months, I lost 25 pounds and got off the diabetic medication.  Now, a year and half later, I have kept off the 25 pounds, do not require medication, and have maintained my sugar levels in the normal range.  I am proof that to be successful in this area you have to make up your mind to carry out a lifestyle change that includes healthier choices. In particular, you need to be focused on the way you are eating, what you are eating, and how much you are eating.  It will help even more when you keep moving with regulated activities for at least 30 minutes a day. This was doable for me and it could be doable for you as soon as you keep an open mind, are willing to try some new things, and have a positive attitude that you will succeed. I made the decision to live a happier and healthier life and now it is a natural part of my existence. I enjoy finding more and more ways to add to this healthier state of mind and body.  It is now my vocation to show others how to feel better.  Begin here:  There is a collection of healthy recipes in the side panel of my Health Coach website – Explore and let me hear some feedback on your new healthy choices:  www.happymediumensemble.net

Hello Everyone!

I've been told it's about time I started blogging and sharing what I recently learned, so here goes...
I am a retired NYC public school Literacy and Technology teacher, and I am now studying for dual
certification through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and S.U.N.Y. Purchase, specializing in health literacy. Specifically, my main focus is the prevention, control, and reversal of childhood obesity and most especially Type 2 diabetes.
I am extremely concerned about the increased numbers of children who are now being diagnosed with these conditions, and I would like to change this situation. The reason I have such a passion to do so is because I was told by my own doctor the three words I dreaded to hear, "You have diabetes." After crying my eyes out, I became determined to find out how to control and overcome this horrifying condition.
First, I sought the advice of a health coach, second, I worked out at the gym, and third, I began to cook more nutritional meals. As a result, I began to see positive results within four months. I lost 25 pounds and was able to stop the diabetic medication. Now, one year later, I have kept off the 25
pounds, and I have created some really tasty meals.
In order to be just as successful, you have to know 3 simple concepts: 1) what to eat, 2) how much to eat, and 3) when to eat. These three nutritional steps are doable.
It is basically my intention to provide such nutritional information to kids during the Bronx Fit program at my wellness center. I have adapted this program from Drs. David and Catherine Katz of the Yale Research Center called “Nutrition Detectives” to be presented in 8 workshops. I really believe that with the motivation of the children and the support of their parents we could prevent obesity and reverse Type 2 diabetes. For more information about booking or participating in these nutritional workshops, contact me on my website: www.happymediumensemble.net.
